Strategy 8: Digital Story using iMovie

What is the instructional strategy?
This digital story using iMovie is a creative strategy that utilizes technology and multimedia resources to create a story. The students will be using this strategy to create a book trailer for Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl.

Why is the strategy useful?
Using iMovie to create a digital story allows students to be more autonomous and creative in their work. This is a great way to increase motivation. This strategy is also effective by encouraging students to use a combination of text, audio, and/or video to convey a message. This allows the students to make a more personal connection with the content.

How does it work?
1)      I select a book that I want all students to read during the unit.
2)      Students are assigned to read Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl.
3)      Students will review the digital story rubric so the expectations are clear before they begin creating their IMovie.
4)      Students are encouraged to create an outline or storyboard to aid in the planning of their movie.
5)      Students will use iMovie to create their Anne Frank book trailer using audio, video, and/or text.
6)      Students will burn their final copy onto a disc using iDVD to submit.
